Babies News

This month our topic is ‘All about me’

The babies will be using their creative skills by mark making pictures for their All about Me display. They will be using their hands, feet and fingers to make marks.

We will be introducing the babies to recognising their body parts and copying body part movements. This will be done through pointing and music and movement sessions.

Tot’s News

This month our topic is ‘All about me’

The children will be learning about their body parts, naming and finding them through songs and games.

We will be creating a family photo display board and an album for children to look at and use during the day. We find this helps children with separation from their parents. The children will be drawing self-portraits and having discussions about who lives in their house. Can you please bring in photos of your family for us to use?

This month our topic is ‘All about me’

The children will be doing self-portraits by looking in mirrors; talking about feelings; singing songs about our bodies and naming their body parts.

We will be looking closely at the children’s religion and cultures through books and the internet. We will also be discussing our own cultures with the children.

The children will participate in discussions about their likes and dislikes and about their families.

This month our topic is ‘All about me’

We chose this topic as we have lots of new children joining our Preschool room this term. The children will be creating self-portraits using mirrors to look at their features. They will be looking at the similarities and differences they have compared to others and having discussions about our likes and dislikes. We will be drawing our family portraits and having discussions about our families. The children will also be creating a height chart.

Separating from parents can be difficult for children so we will be having lots of discussions about our feelings and why we feel different ways. The children will create pictures to represent how they are feeling. We will also be using the internet to research different ways of life.

Babies News

This month, the babies will be continuing to learn all about Summer fun.

The babies will be exploring their senses by playing with sand, water and other textured objects. The babies will also be carrying out lots of outdoor activities.

The babies will be enjoying a picnic outdoors in the sunshine.

Tot’s News

This month the children will be continuing their interest in Seaside fun.

The children will be making sand castles and exploring wet and dry sand.

The children will also be learning about the different items we can take to the beach. For example, Fishing nets, buckets & spades and sun cream etc.

This month, our topic is all about “Going on Holiday”

The children will be learning about and researching different types of transport that we use to travel on holiday. We will be encouraging the children to use their creative side by role playing a pretend holiday. We will be discussing about where they will be going on and who will be going with them. We will also be talking about what items they need to take with them. The small world area will be transformed into a beach.

This month, we will be celebrating the Indian festival, Rakhi. Rakhi celebrates the festival of Monsoon. The children will be making bracelets for their loved ones. We will also talk about the importance of Rakhi.

This month, we will be learning all about Summertime

The children will be spending a lot of time in the garden making the most of the good weather (hopefully) They will be making their own ice-lollies, creating sunglasses, building sandcastles and having discussions about how the weather makes us feel.

We will be using the internet to research all about summer and discussing holidays.

The children have requested a pool party in the garden. We will get back to you on a date.

This month we will be celebrating Rakhi. The children will be researching why Rakhi is celebrated and what it means. They will also be making their own bracelets.

We will be spending more time outdoors as the weather is now improving, so can you please ensure you are providing sun cream and sunhats for your child.

Laura will be leaving the team at The George Eliot after 2 years. Her last day will be on the 18th August. We wish her all the best for her future, she will be sadly missed.

Babies News

This term our topic will be “Winter Time”

The babies will be taking part in the following activities:

  • Exploring the role play area by dressing up in winter clothes
  • Exploring the weather outside as it changes.
  • Winter artwork using different materials and resources to create our winter wonderland display board
  • Learning new songs and reading winter time stories.

Can we please remind parents that the children will still be accessing the garden in the colder months, therefore we advise you to provide warm clothing for your child.

The children will be celebrating bonfire night pictures using a variety of different materials.

We will be looking closely at winter animals and finding out where they live and what they like to eat. We will also be looking at how they keep warm in winter.

We will also be exploring the cold by playing with ice and creating snowflake pictures for our winter display.

We will be celebrating Remembrance Day by creating our very own poppy pictures.

This month we will be focusing on “Winter animals”

We will be using the tablets to research and find out what these animals eat.

We will be talking about winter clothing and how we keep warm in the cold weather.

We will be creating our own poppies for Remembrance Day and colourful pictures for bonfire night. We will also be raising money for children in need by asking the children to come dressed in their pyjamas.

This month our topic will be “Storyland”

The children will be re-enacting popular stories and making their own using a variety of props. We will be rearranging the rooms accordingly to support children’s learning, for example, Goldilocks and the 3 bears will be recreated using our role play area.

We will be creating pictures for bonfire night and Remembrance Day using a variety of different resources and materials. We will also be having group discussions about what Bonfire Night and Remembrance Day are all about.

This year we will be raising money for Children in Need by asking the children to come dressed I their pyjamas. We are asking you donate £1.

Claire has now returned from her maternity leave and is in the setting from 1-6 everyday.

Megan, Sam and Anila attended Safeguarding training in October to refresh their knowledge.

We would like to say huge congratulations to Sam and her partner Steve on their wonderful new that they are expecting their first baby in May 2017.

Babies News

The babies will be continuing to learn about “Under the Sea”

They will be creating their own under the sea pictures using a variety of materials. They will be listening to short stories and signing songs about sea animals. The babies will be exploring marks by using shells and damp sand.

If you are visiting the seaside this summer, we would be grateful if you could collect some shells with your child and bring them to nursery for us to use.

This month, the tots will be continuing their interest in “Under the water”

This time we will be looking more closely at the animals that live under the sea. We will be researching sea animals using the hudl, finding out what they eat etc.

We will be creating our own fishing pool using rocks, shells and fish. The children will be encouraged to catch the fish using nets then using their maths skills, count them.

The children have been showing interest in messy play. We will continue this interest by exploring 3D printing foam, painting and making our own playdough.

We will also be celebrating Eid.

This month we are focusing on “Animals” that live under the sea.

We will be carrying out a variety of activities which will include building sandcastles on the beach and water play.

The children will be visiting their new rooms and getting ready for their transition in September. They will also be assigned a new keyworker. You will be told who this is in September.

The children will be using their creative side and baking cakes.

This month we also have school children accessing our holiday scheme. We will be taking the children on different trips over the next few weeks. These include Bedworth Park, bowling, shopping. We will let you know the dates for these trips advance. We will also be having a slumber party, chosen by the children, at nursery.

This month, our topic is called ‘At the beach’

The babies will be looking at the different creatures that live in the sea and looking closely at them. We will be exploring seashells and looking at the different textures they have. We will also be having fun in the sand, building sand castles and filling an emptying. The babies will also be listening to the different sounds you hear at the seaside.

We would like to wish all our babies good luck in their new section. We will miss you.

This month the tot’s will be continuing with ‘Under the water’

The children will be learning about the different types of transport you can use on and under water. We will be carrying out floating and sinking experiments which involve the children identifying objects they think will float and ones they think will sink.

The children have been showing interest in messy play. We will continue this interest by exploring 3D printing foam, painting and making our own playdough.

We will also be celebrating Eid.

Our topic this month is ‘Under the Sea’

The children will be looking at and discovering animals which live under the sea. We will be using the tablet to research and look at a variety of sea creatures. We will be using nets to catch our own fish and using our number skills to count them. We will be exploring water and turning it to ice and also watching the ice melt.

The children enjoyed the outdoors last month by going on bug hunts and growing our own broccoli. We even picked some home-grown broccoli and cooked it for our dinner. The children also enjoyed exploring the mud kitchen and creating their own mud pies.

Our topic this term is ‘All about Summer’

We will be having group discussions about the weather and how different kinds of weather makes us feel. As we are learning all about Summer, we will be using the garden for lots of our activities. We will be planning a beach party where the children will enjoy the swimming pool and make sandcastles. We will be discussing with the children and looking at the different clothes we wear in the summer time and the protection we need to keep us safe from the sun. We will also be making our own ice-lollies.

Babies News

This month, the babies will be continuing to look closely at the ‘Outdoor environment’.

They will be learning how to care for plants and flowers. They will also be helping to water them. The babies will be learning about the weather and learning some new songs. The babies will be exploring books about the weather to extend their knowledge.

Developing baby’s sensory skills is a very important part of their development. We will be exploring different natural objects, encouraging the babies to feel and smell them. We will also be using mud play and sand and water to fill and empty. The baby’s will be developing their mark making skills by using lots of different tools.

This month the tots will be ‘Exploring under the sea’.

The children will be discovering all the different types of animals that live under the sea. They will be creating their own sea life water scene and catching fish using nets.

The children have been showing lots of interest in the plants outside. We have decided to explore their interests by discussing with the children about how plants grow and what they need to stay alive. We will also be planting our own cress seeds and watching them grow.

As it is Father’s day, the children will also be creating cards and yummy cakes.

This month’s topic in the 2plus room is all about ‘Nature’

Last month we concentrated on the outdoor environment where we looked at bugs and insects. Due to the children being very interested in this we continued the theme. We will be encouraging the children to explore their science skills by looking at bugs closely using magnifying glasses. We will be counting lady bird spots and using our own handprints to create butterflies. We will be watering plants and talking about how they grow. We will also be growing our own sunflowers.

We will be looking closely at numbers and also beginning to write the first letter of our name.

This month the preschool children will be focusing on ‘Growing’

We will be having group discussions on how plants grow, what they eat and how to look after them. The children will be growing their own cress plants and learning how to care for them. Once they begin to grow, we will be measuring them to see how big they grow. We will also be doing some research on the computer which will help the children extend their knowledge about plants.

As we have some children leaving us for school, we will be doing lots of work based around ‘School Readiness’ If you would like more information on how you can support your child in this transition, then please speak to your child’s key worker.

On Wednesday 22nd June we have the photographer coming to nursery to take the children’s photographs. The photographer will arrive around 8:30 and leave around 2pm. If your child does not attend on this day but you would like them to have their photo taken, then you are more than welcome to bring them along. If you would like your child changed in to an outfit, then please inform their key worker.

This month, the babies will be looking closely at their outdoor environment.

We will be looking at flowers and all the different colours. We will be using watering cans to help care for and water them. We will be exploring our mud kitchen and using different tools to dig. The babies will be exploring their physical development by moving in different ways. The babies will also be creating musical instruments using natural materials from the garden.

Tot’s News

This month the tots will be continuing to look at transport.

The children will be creating their own 3D transport using junk modelling, paint and other creative materials. We will be encouraging the children to create their models by using their imaginations. We will be discussing with the children about the different types of transport they use, looking at books, and watching for the bin men. We will also be doing some plane spotting outside in the garden.

If you have any cereal boxes, pots, or other junk modelling we can use please bring it in to nursery.

2plus News

This month we will be focusing on the outdoor environment.

The children will be going on a bug hunt, using a range of tools to help them in their search. We will be looking closely at the bugs we find and create our own using lots of creative materials. The children will be busy getting green fingers as they will be planting lots of different plants in the garden. This includes tomato plants. The children will learn how to care for them by using watering cans to help water them. It is very important that children learn to be independent. In the 2plus room we encourage the children to use the toilet by themselves, offering help and support when needed. We also encourage them to wash their own hands, feed themselves and tidy up their toys. If you could continue this at home and help work alongside us this would be fantastic. If you need more information on independence, please speak to a staff member.

This month preschool will be continuing to look at Occupations.

The children will be researching different occupations using a range of tools. This includes resource books and the internet. We will be adapting our home corner to suit different occupations. For example, we will be changing the home corner in to a hairdressers and a restaurant. We will also be using dressing up to act out different occupation roles. As the weather has finally started to warm up we will be planting lots of flowers, cress and some vegetables. We will be discussing with the children how plants grown and what they need to stay alive. The children will be exploring science by measuring their cress and how big they grow. As we have children leaving us for school we are concentrating on ‘School Readiness’. This includes encouraging independence, looking at phonics, counting and much more. If you would like more information on what ‘School Readiness’ looks like, please speak to a staff member.

This Term the babies will be learning about under the sea.

They will be exploring their senses with lots of water activities, and looking at different materials and textures.

This month the Tots will be looking at different types of transport.

They will be creating a display board depicting the types of transport we use. we will be creating pictures making different marks with paint using cars, and getting messy with gloop and play dough.

We will also be learning about what vehicles help us e.g. fire engines, ambulances etc.

2plus News

This month we will be continuing our topic on weather.

We will be talking about seasons and changes in the weather. We will be planting seeds as it gets warmer and talking about how plants grow.

We will be celebrating the festival of Vaisakhi which is a Punjabi festival of thanksgiving and happiness, so we will be talking about what makes us happy.

We will also be doing some cultural dancing and baking.

We will be planting cress seeds and will be creating our vegetable patch in our outdoor area. We will be teaching the children about what plants need to grow and why.

Our topic is Music Galore so we will be exploring different sounds, and finding out about music from different cultures, and in different languages. Please feel free to share any songs or music you have with the staff so we can get the parents involved.

Babies News

Our topic this month is all about ‘Animals’

The babies will be having fun learning about the different sounds animals make. We will be looking at farm animals, jungle animals, insects and pets. The babies will be helping care for our pet guinea pigs by feeding them and petting them. We will be learning the baby’s new songs and reading them short stories about animals. The babies also be using their feet to create animal footprints using paint.

The babies will be creating lots of artwork for St. David’s Day and St Patrick’s Day. We will also be creating something special for our mummies for Mother’s Day.

This month our topic will continue to focus on ‘People who help us’

We will be getting the parents involved by asking them about their occupations and how they help people. We will encourage the children to join in discussions with us and provide them with a range of books that show different occupations. We will also be setting the children (and parents) a little piece of homework. This involves developing the children’s numeracy skills. Rachael and Vinny will discuss this with parents further.

We will also be celebrating St Patrick’s Day by creating clovers and St David’s Day by asking the children to dress in yellow.

This month our topic is all about ‘Clothing and Weather’

The children will be learning about weather and the different clothes you wear. We have noticed that some children dislike putting on their coat to go outside so we hope this topic will give them a better understanding of why we must wear our coats during cold months. This month the 2plus children will be getting very creative. With Easter just around the corner we will be creating Easter baskets and also going on an Easter egg hunt. This will be based outdoors.

The children will also be creating Mother’s Day cards for the special people in their lives. The children (and staff) will also be showing off their cooking skills by baking cakes, creating ginger bread men and lots more.

This month our topic is ‘Music Galore’

During this topic the children will be experiencing music from all over the world and discussing the different sounds they can hear. The children will have the opportunity to create their own instruments using junk modelling and experiment with them by creating different sounds. The children will be listening to different genres of music from opera to rock.

We will be celebrating many different festivals this month which include St David’s Day, St Patrick’s Day and Easter. The children will also be creating something special for Mother’s Day.

We will also be learning about Growing and Change and planting vegetables, flowers and more.

Some of our staff will be attending training on the Prevent Duty on Wednesday 2nd March. They will be learning all about the importance of protecting children from radicalisation.

From the 1st March 2016, Megan Haggerty will step up a role to Senior Manager of The George Eliot. Claire Jackson will continue in her role as Manager.

This month our topic is ‘Transport’.

We have some very exciting activities planned for the babies which include, creating a hot air balloon using lots of sensory objects, exploring large boxes, using our imaginations to create different types of transport and mark-making using wheeled objects and paint. The babies will also be using their physical abilities to explore the outdoor area.

We will be celebrating ‘Chinese New Year’ on the 8th February where the babies will be dressing up, dancing and listening to Chinese music and sounds.

This month our topic is all about ‘People who help us’

We have lots of exciting activities planned for the children which will help extend their knowledge. The children will be using their imaginations and exploring the role play area by dressing up as different people who help us. We will be learning new rhymes and reading stories about people who help us in the community. We will also be using the tablets with the children to look at different occupations.

We will be celebrating ‘Chinese New Year’ by having a small party. We will also be celebrating Valentine’s Day and are asking the children to wear something red.

Our topic this month is ‘People and Occupations’

We will be talking to the children about different occupations, for example doctors, police and dustbin men. The children will be using their imaginations and dressing up as different occupational characters. We will also be creating our own fire engine using recycled boxes and paint.

During February we will be celebrating ‘Chinese New Year’ and ‘Valentine’s Day.’ We will be having a food tasting session for Chinese New Year and creating our own dragon using boxes. The children will be creating Valentine’s Day cards for loved ones.

Other activities we have planned: Phonetical sounds, number recognition, memory games, follow the leader, building houses and guess the sound.

Our topic this month is all about ‘Exploring our Senses’

We have planned lots of exciting activities for the children which will help them to explore all of their senses. The children will be taking part in a food tasting sessions which involves them tasting different types of food, such as lemons, dried fruits, and pickled foods.

The children will also be exploring different textured materials. These include jelly, gloop, ice cubes and scented playdough. We have also planned some cooking activities that include making bread and creating biscuits and decorating them.

We will also be celebrating ‘Chinese New Year’. We have many activities planned. As it is the year of the Monkey, the children will be creating their own monkey pictures.

Other activities include: Learning the initial sounds of our names and familiar objects, recognising numbers, matching quantities, and shape recognition.
