Nursery Foleshill Coventry:
Safeguarding and Child Protection

At George Eliot Kindergarten, We take our responsibility for safeguarding children very seriously and we ask that you support us in carrying out this important role. Our concern is always for the safety, well-being, and child development of all children. At nursery, we have a named Designated Safeguarding Lead and other supporting DSL’s so that there is always a member of staff with this knowledge available. We also work in partnership with other agencies such as health, education and social care.
Early childhood experiences play a critical role in shaping a child’s life and future. We emphasize the importance of providing a nurturing environment that addresses various aspects of a child’s life, including emotional, social, and educational development, to ensure children reach their full potential.
Our nursery helps children begin their educational journey with confidence and the skills that aid their learning process.
As part of the Nursery’s inclusive philosophy in early childhood education,
We take account of any additional needs that a child may have to support their learning and development by providing them with access to various resources and environments that enhance their growth. The nursery works in partnership with parents, carers, health care professionals, education and social care to ensure that the nursery best meets the needs of each individual child. We have a Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator who assists staff in preparing for meeting children’s needs. By addressing these needs, we aim to positively impact every aspect of a child’s life and support children in all aspects of their development.
We have two Health and Safety Officers who carry out extra risk assessments to ensure the building is secure and safe. All of our staff are paediatric first aid trained, and have received food hygiene, infection and prevention training, and regular safeguarding training.
Staff photographs are displayed together with their role and main qualifications. All George Eliot staff also wear a uniform for easy recognition.
All staff at George Eliot have current enhanced DBS checks and all staff receive regular training around child protection issues.

Policies and Procedures
George Eliot Kindergarten recognises that a successful nursery requires a combination of skilled and caring people with efficient and effective key policies. As a dedicated childcare company, we are committed to providing quality care and support for children and families. We acknowledge that our key policies and procedures are fundamental to ensuring we always maintain a quality setting. Within nursery we have a folder available to all our families which contains all our policies and procedures which govern the way we operate our nursery, and these will be openly available to parents and Ofsted alike. Some are also displayed on our parent information board. For further details on our policies and procedures, we encourage parents to contact us directly.
Our policies include, health and safety, equal opportunities, child behaviour, parent partnership, staffing, nursery operations, nursery admissions, complaints procedure and Safeguarding and Child Protection. Our nursery fees are fully inclusive, covering meals, snacks, and various care essentials, ensuring comprehensive and quality childcare for all families. We also offer funded nursery education sessions for eligible children, providing flexible options to accommodate working parents.
Policies and procedures are at the heart of everything we do and for that reason they must be maintained and measured. Our regular monitoring and staff training programmes will ensure that our processes are always kept to the highest standards.
Policy content is provided by management and staff, and by referring to third party organisations such as the NDNA, and Wirehouse, who keep a library of best practice documents. Parents and carers are invited to contribute to our policies, and we send out regular surveys inviting comment and feedback.
Health and Hygiene
We take the health and hygiene of our children very seriously, and we have a range of policies and procedures in place to support this. We provide healthy meals and snacks, and we encourage children to develop good hygiene habits, such as washing their hands regularly. We also provide sun cream and other protective measures to support children’s health and well-being during outdoor play.
Our staff are trained in first aid and child safety, and we have a robust system in place for reporting and managing accidents and incidents. We believe that a healthy and safe environment is essential for children’s development and learning, and we strive to provide the highest standards of care and protection. By prioritizing health and hygiene, we ensure that children can learn and grow in a safe and supportive environment.
