Our Staff
George Eliot Kindergarten have a strong, dedicated, helpful team of qualified and experienced staff who work closely together which is reflected in the nursery’s positive atmosphere.
We work on the basic premise that a nursery is as good as its staff and we take great pride in our commitment to our staff and in the commitment they show to your child. We recognise the apparent link between well-qualified, motivated, enthusiastic staff and high quality care and education for your child. When choosing staff for our nursery, we look not just for the right qualifications and experience, but also for that extra passion for working with children.
Staff photos, names, and highest early years qualification are displayed in the nursery entrance together with details of the different languages our team can speak. All our staff also wear the George Eliot nursery uniform for easy recognition and all our staff are required to have an enhanced DBS check in place before they can work with children.
We take our responsibility for safeguarding children very seriously and we ask that you support us in carrying out this important role, our concern is always for the safety and wellbeing of all children. At nursery, we have a named Designated Safeguarding Lead and supporting DSL’s so that there is always a member of staff with this knowledge available. We also work in partnership with other agencies such as health, education and social care. If we have concerns that a child is suffering from abuse, we have a legal duty to make a referral to social care, following the reporting process for the area in which the child lives. We will always inform parents and carers of any action being taken and work with you where possible, unless it is considered that by raising our concern with you this may put the child or staff member at risk.
As part of the nursery’s inclusive philosophy, we take account of any additional needs that a child may have. The nursery staff team work in partnership with parents, carers, health care professionals, education and social care to ensure that the nursery best meets the needs of each individual child. We have a Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator who assists staff in preparing for meeting children’s needs however all our staff have a secure working knowledge to ensure we are effectively supporting all children and children with special educational needs.
We also have two Health and Safety Officers who carry out regular risk assessments to ensure the building is secure and safe. All of our staff are paediatric first aid trained, and have received food hygiene, infection and prevention training, and regular safeguarding training.
